Buy Zander frames - all variants, all sizes, available immediately
The Zander frame is the first choice of many magazine beekeepers in Germany and Austria - and one of the best-selling frame sizes at Bienenzucht-Profi. In our shop you will find Zander frames in every common design: Hoffmann sides, straight sides, modified, as half frames, in one and a half size(Zander 1.5) and as a kit in parts for self-assembly. All pre-assembled Zander frames are glued, stapled and wired with high-quality stainless steel wire - horizontally or vertically, depending on the model.

Zander frame dimensions - overview of all formats
The Zander frame dimensions are clearly defined - but within the Zander system there are different formats for different purposes. Here is an overview:
| Format | External dimensions (W × H) | Area of application |
|---|---|---|
| Zander Standard | 420 × 220 mm | Brood chamber and honey chamber |
| Zander half | 420 × 110 mm | Flat frame, honey chamber |
| Zander 2/3 | 420 × 148 mm | Honey chamber, compact frames |
| Zander 1.5 (one and a half) | 420 × 330 mm | Large capacity frame, extended brood area |
| Zander flat frame | 420 × 159 mm | Honey room |
The standard size 420 × 220 mm is by far the most commonly used Zander format. The width of 420 mm is identical for all Zander variants - the height varies depending on the frame type. This means that all Zander frames fit into the same hive as long as the frame height is correct.
All Zander formats are available at Bienenzucht-Profi - from standard to one-and-a-half size.
Zander frames Hoffmann sides (height 220 mm) - the Classic
The Zander frame with Hoffmann sides is the absolute classic among the Zander frames. The Hoffmann sides are wider and automatically ensure the correct honeycomb spacing of 35 mm - without the need for additional spacers, upholstery nails or pins. Simply hang it up and you're done.
This makes the Zander Hoffmann frame the preferred choice for beekeepers who value fast, uncomplicated work. No fiddling with spacing, no slipping of the frames - a noticeable advantage, especially when inspecting and spinning.
Our Zander frames Hoffmann sides height 220 mm are made of untreated wood, in most versions glued and stapled for maximum stability, and wired with stainless steel wire. Available in horizontal and vertical wiring.
Horizontalwiring is the standard - it gives the centre panel even support over the entire surface. The verticalwiring provides additional stability during spinning and is favoured by many beekeepers who work at high speeds.
Zander frames without Hoffmann - straight sides for customised spacing
The Zander frame without Hoffmann (with straight sides) gives you full control over the comb spacing. You decide how close or wide your frames are - with pad nails, cross clamps, side spacing pins or Castellated Spacers.
This format is popular with beekeepers who want to vary their comb spacing depending on the season or frame type - narrower in the brood chamber for a more compact brood nest, wider in the honey chamber for thicker honeycombs. Even in hives designed for straight sides (e.g. certain Liebig hives), the Zander frame straight sides is the right choice.
Like all our Zander frames: glued, stapled, stainless steel wire, wired horizontally or vertically.
Zander frame modified - reinforced top beam for more stability
The modified Zander frame has a reinforced upper beam with a groove. This groove serves as a guide when soldering in the centre panel - the centre panel immediately sits straight and stable without readjustment.
The second advantage: the reinforced construction gives the honeycomb more support, especially when harvesting honey in the extractor. The comb generally remains more stable - an advantage that you will quickly learn to appreciate with large honey harvests.
The modified Zander frame is available with Hoffmann sides(modified Hoffmann) and with straight sides(modified straight). Both versions are usually glued, stapled and wired with stainless steel wire.
Are you unsure whether Hoffmann, straight or modified is right for you? If in doubt, the Zander Hoffmann modified frame is the most versatile choice - it combines the automatic honeycomb spacing of the Hoffmann sides with the stability of the reinforced upper beam.
Zander half frame - for honey frames and flat frames
The Zander half frame(420 × 110 mm) is the compact version for flat frames and honey frames. The half height has two practical advantages: The honeycombs are lighter and therefore easier to handle, and full half frames can be uncapped more quickly and cleanly.
Half Zander frames can make work easier, especially for beekeepers who regularly harvest large quantities of honey. They are also used as standard in the Zander flat frame.
Available with Hoffmann sides and straight sides, glued, stapled, stainless steel wire.
Zander 1.5 frames - the one-and-a-half size for large frames
The Zander 1.5 frame(420 × 330 mm) is the one-and-a-half size in the Zander system - for beekeepers who work with large frames and want more brood area per frame without having to switch to a different hive system.
The advantage of the Zander 1.5: more contiguous brood area on one frame, fewer frames to look through and a more generous brood nest for high-performance colonies. The width remains at 420 mm - the Zander 1.5 frames therefore fit into hives with Zander width, but require higher frames.
Available with Hoffmann sides and straight sides. Glued, stapled, stainless steel wire.
Zander 2/3 frames and Zander flat frame frames
In addition to the standard and half formats, we also offer other special formats in the Zander system:
The Zander 2/3 frame(420 × 148 mm) is a compromise between the standard and half frame - slightly more comb area than the half frame, but more compact than the full frame. Popular as a honey frame.
The Zander flat frame frame(420 × 159 mm) is specially made for Zander flat frames. It fits exactly into the frame height and provides an optimal honeycomb surface for honey extraction.
Both formats are available from Bienenzucht-Profi.
Zander honeycomb frames - for the production of honeycombs
Zander comb honey frames are special frames that are specifically designed for the production of full, capped honeycombs. Honeycomb honey - honey directly in the natural honeycomb - is a premium product that is particularly popular with customers due to its intense, unadulterated flavour.
We stock Zander comb honey frames in two variants:
Honeycomb frames Zander Standard - in the regular Zander size for use in standard honey frames.
Honeycomb frames Zander flat - in flat format for Zander flat frames. The flat format enables particularly even filling and capping of the combs - ideal for an attractive end product.
You can also find the right accessories for removing, portioning and packaging comb honey at Beekeeping-Professional.
Zander frames in parts - kits for self-assembly
For beekeepers who want to build their own Zander frames, we offer suitable Zander frame kits. Especially for larger quantities, self-assembly pays off - lower costs per frame and full control over the assembly quality.
Our Zander frames in parts contain precisely milled side parts, top and bottom beams made of untreated wood. Available as:
Zander Hoffmann in parts - kit with Hoffmann side parts, top beam and bottom beam.
Zander straight sides in parts - kit with straight sides.
Zander modified in parts - kit with reinforced top beam (groove).
We also offer the matching accessories: stainless steel wall wire, eyelets, wire tensioners, nail nippers and nail pushers. Everything you need for assembly from a single source at Beekeeping-Professional.
Zander frames and bee colonies - everything in the right size
Are you not only looking for frames, but also bees? At Bienenzucht-Profi you can get Zander frames and Bee colonies from a single source - in exactly the same format.
Our bee colonies (offshoots) in Zander size are delivered on 5 Zander frames - you insert them directly into your Zander hive. The process is very gentle on the bees. Available in Buckfast, Carnica, Dunkle Biene and Ligustica.
Alternatively we offer Artificial swarms 1.5 kg of bees with or without a queen, which you can place in any hive regardless of format. And for beginners there are Beekeeper starter sets with a Zander hive and matching offspring - all coordinated in one order.

Frequently asked questions - Zander frames at Bienenzucht-Profi [FAQ]
How big is a Zander frame? The standard Zanderframe has external dimensions of 420 × 220 mm. The width of 420 mm is identical for all Zander variants. The height varies depending on the format: 110 mm (half), 148 mm (2/3), 159 mm (flat frame), 220 mm (standard) and 330 mm(Zander 1.5). All formats are available from Bienenzucht-Profi.
For Zander hives, you need frames with a width of 420 mm. The height depends on your frame type: standard (220 mm), flat frame or half frame. At Bienenzucht-Profi you will find all Zander formats in Hoffmann, straight and modified - ready-wired or in parts.
Zander Hoffmann has widened side sections that automatically create the correct honeycomb spacing(35 mm) - no accessories required. Zander without Hoffmann(straight sides) allows you to determine the spacing yourself using pins or clamps. Hoffmann is more convenient, straight sides are more flexible. Both are available from Bienenzucht-Profi.
A modified Zander frame has a reinforced upper beam with a groove as a centre wall guide. This makes soldering the centre wall easier and gives the comb more stability - especially when spinning. Available from Bienenzucht-Profi with Hoffmann sides and straight sides.
A standard Zander frame holds 10 frames with Hoffmann sides or 11 frames with straight sides and spacers. The exact capacity may vary slightly depending on the hive and manufacturer.
No. The Zander frame(420 mm wide) is wider than the DN frame (370 mm). The two systems are not compatible and each requires its own hive. Zander and DN are both available from us with a full range - in all variants and formats.
The standard Zanderframe measures 420 × 220 mm. The Zander 1.5 frame(one and a half size) measures 420 × 330 mm - the same width, but 50% more height. Zander 1.5 offers more contiguous brood area and requires higher frames. Both formats are available from Bienenzucht-Profi.
Yes - Bienenzucht-Profi stocks Zander comb honey frames in standard and flat format. The flat version is particularly popular for even filling and capping. The matching packaging accessories are also available.
Yes - we offer Zander frame kits in all variants: Hoffmann in parts, straight sides in parts and modified in parts. We also supply stainless steel honeycomb wire, eyelets, wire tensioners and assembly tools. Self-assembly is particularly worthwhile for large quantities.
