How are centre walls made from beeswax?
Firstly, the honeycomb surface is moulded from purified beeswax during the production of central walls for the beehive. Here you can choose between suitable models for every beehive. So that the centre walls can be easily attached to the hive, so-called frames are used into which the centre wall is inserted. The side edges of the centre panel are heated so that the wax bonds with the frame. Once the wax has cooled down, the centre wall is firmly and stably attached to the frame.
Why should you buy centre walls for the hive?
Bees are of course able to make their own centre walls and combs in which to lay the next brood. However, anyone who decides to buy centre walls for the hive benefits from several advantages. Firstly, the bees immediately use the available storage space to start reproducing. The bees orientate themselves to the even pattern of the combs and simultaneously begin to build the combs over the entire surface of the centre wall. As the necessary preparatory work is no longer necessary, bee colonies with finished centre walls usually reproduce much faster than bee colonies that are left to build the hive themselves.
Another advantage is that the particularly robust centre walls from our online shop are ideal for extracting honey. Naturally produced centre walls, which are produced by the bees themselves, have a very uneven structure and tend to break at thinner points when the honey is extracted. With our centre walls made from beeswax, you are spared this problem. However, should a centre wall break during the honey harvest, the affected area can simply be cut out and melted down to make a new centre wall. Of course, used and old centre walls made of beeswax can also be completely melted down and cleaned, for example to sell them to a wax processor or to make new centre walls yourself.
When bees produce centre walls themselves, this is usually done from top to bottom. If the bees are only provided with a frame as a base, most colonies do not extend the construction to the bottom of the frame. Instead, a gap remains free, which the bees use as a quicker route through the combs. The combs themselves are also very uneven with natural centre walls, so a lower honey yield is to be expected. If you want to generate the maximum amount of honey from beekeeping, you should therefore rely on high-quality centre walls made from beeswax, which already provide the animals with the optimum basis for maintaining the bee colony and producing honey.
Centre walls for different hive sizes
Centre walls made from beeswax are produced for different hives. The frames in which the centre walls are or can be attached are cut to fit precisely. If you purchase centre walls without frames, these will of course correspond exactly to the frame shape so that you can easily insert them. At the Beekeeping Professional online shop, we focus on the best-known beehives and supply you with high-quality centre walls for the most common beehives. On request, you can also order half centre walls, for example if only limited space is available. This also encourages natural honeycomb construction, as the bees themselves ensure the further expansion of the honeycombs in this case.
Centre walls for Zander beehives
We offer different centre walls for the Zander beehive. The complete Zander centre panel made of beeswax has the classic dimensions of 395 x 195 mm. Alternatively, a Zander flat frame centre panel is available, which has been designed to measure 395 x 135 mm. If you only want to use half a centre panel instead to promote natural honeycomb construction, you can get the Zander half centre panel in 395 x 100 mm format.
Centre walls for Deutsch Normalmaß (DN) hives
The German standard size is probably the most common size for beehives in Germany. This is why we offer a particularly large range here. You can obtain the centre walls for DN beehives in standard size with 350 x 200 mm or as a standard size and a half variant with 350 x 315 mm width and length. If you opt for a half centre panel made of beeswax to enable natural comb building in the hive, the half centre panel is available in a size of 350 x 100 mm. For the flat frame, we recommend the specially cut centre panel measuring 350 x 135 mm.
Centre walls for Dadant US
Dadant US hives are specially divided, so we also use special centre walls here. For the honey chamber, we recommend either the Dadant US honey chamber centre panel measuring 420 x 117 mm or the slightly larger version measuring 420 x 135 mm in width and length. For the brood chamber, on the other hand, a centre wall measuring 420 x 260 mm is used in Dadant US hives.
Centre walls for Dadant leaf
There are two different sizes of centre walls available for Dadant leaf hives, one for the brood chamber and one for the honey chamber. The beeswax centre panel for the honey chamber is 410 x 130 mm in length and width, while the dimensions of the centre panel for the Dadant leaf brood chamber are 410 x 265 mm.
