The queen in a package bee swarm

The queen determines the type of package bee swarm you ultimately receive. She is shipped together with the swarm, but in a separate introduction cage. This means you can introduce the queen to the swarm yourself after purchasing the package bees. With our full bee colonies, however, the queen is already integrated into the colony.

Before the arrival of the package bees, you should prepare your hive with approximately five frames including wax foundations. This provides the bees with enough space to build their new home. Sufficient food should also be available in the hive.

You can then gently pour the package bees into the hive. The queen should be given time to acclimate to the colony, which can be achieved by placing or hanging the introduction cage on the frames. If necessary, and if the food inside the cage is very dry, it should be lightly moistened with a few drops of water.

Good to know: As a temporary replacement for the queen, we add a pheromone to Bienenzucht-Profi package bee swarms. Without the queen pheromone, the bees’ swarming behaviour could be disrupted.
