Summary of the Carnica ZaDant nucleus colony
Our Carnica ZaDant nucleus colonies are available for order from the second half of april through july. Each nucleus consists of five frames in the zadant format: three brood frames, one food frame, and one frame under construction. The frames contain brood in all stages of development, including both open and capped brood. In addition to brood, the frames hold sufficient food reserves to ensure the nucleus colony is well supplied. The included young queen originates from the current year’s breeding, is station mated, and is marked before shipment. The bees sit calmly and evenly on the frames, and the colony strength corresponds to what is expected from a strong, well-developed nucleus.
Before shipping, all nucleus colonies are carefully checked for health, and a corresponding health certificate is issued for each delivery. For transport, we rely on a particularly fast and gentle overnight express courier service to keep stress for the bees as low as possible. Delivery is available within germany as well as to austria, denmark, luxembourg, and belgium. Please note that delivery to islands is only possible if they can be reached directly from the mainland by truck.
The special Carnica bee on zadant
The Carnica bee is known for its exceptional gentleness and remains calm on the frames during inspections. It shows a low tendency to swarm and impresses with balanced colony development as well as reliable and strong overwintering performance. Thanks to these traits, it is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced beekeepers. In addition, the Carnica bee is characterized by its high honey yield, making it a reliable partner for beekeepers when combined with the proven zadant system. Due to its adaptability to different climatic conditions, Carnica has proven itself in many regions of europe. Its gentle temperament also allows for pleasant and low-stress work at the hive, which is especially appreciated in hobby beekeeping.
Carnica nucleus colony in the zadant format – frame dimensions
Given the wide variety of hive systems and nucleus colonies on the market, it is important to always compare frame dimensions with those of your hive. Here you receive the Carnica nucleus colony in the zadant format with the following frame dimensions:
top bar length: 477 mm
bottom bar length: 420 mm
height: 285 mm
The zadant hive system combines elements of the classic zander and dadant formats and is gaining popularity in germany, particularly among beekeepers who wish to combine the advantages of both systems. While zadant is not yet as widespread as pure zander or dadant systems, it is increasingly valued by experienced beekeepers who prioritize efficient management and maximum flexibility. Especially in southern germany and among hobby beekeepers, zadant is attracting growing interest, as it simplifies switching between brood and honey supers while remaining based on proven dimensions.
For this reason, we specifically offer our Carnica nucleus colonies in the zadant format for this system.
